I found CrossFit in 2007 and quickly realized it was the best platform for getting in shape and having fun while doing it. We started workouts in the garage and by 2008 a business had formed organically: CrossFit Salem. In 2009 we moved the gym from the garage into a commercial facility. With the business growing I quit my engineering career in 2010 and focused 100% on CrossFit Salem. The early years were fun and challenging as we broke new ground for functional fitness in Salem. Over the next three years CFS continued to grow and we added 4 babies

With the business growing I quit my engineering career in 2010 and focused 100% on CrossFit Salem. The early years were fun and challenging as we broke new ground for functional fitness in Salem. Over the next three years CFS continued to grow and we added 4 babies to our life! In 2012 we moved our business again into an abandoned Golds Gym facility on Fairview Industrial (still here). In 2013 we branched out and helped open CrossFit West Salem as well as NW Fit Games (CrossFit style events). What started as a way to get in shape for me, ended up being a thriving fitness community. Carol and I are blessed to have met some amazing people in Salem all while embracing small business ownership. The pandemic in 2020 rocked small business owners in Oregon and specifically the fitness industry. In true CrossFit fashion we weathered that storm with the help of our amazing trainers and members. Once again CFS is thriving and positively impacting many lives in the Salem area. We love our community and will continue to promote health and wellness for the people of Salem.

CrossFit has been like a hobby to me. But unlike most hobbies, CrossFit has improved my health and well being. It has also played a major role in my ability to do my job efficiently and safely. Being a full time firefighter, you never know what the job will ask of you but you have to be prepared mentally and physically to handle it. CrossFit has made me physically and mentally strong to handle whatever comes my way. Coaching isn't my full time job, but that doesn't mean I don't take it seriously or take the time to better my

Coaching isn’t my full time job, but that doesn’t mean I don’t take it seriously or take the time to better my self.
I obtained my level 1 cert in 2012. Once I gained enough experience coaching, I wanted to take the next step and obtain my level 2 cert. I did so in 2017. Since then I’ve attended multiple gymnastics, Olympic lifting and endurance courses. I also thrive on researching different approaches to coaching and training.

My goal as a coach is to always be an advocate for health and fitness.

I started CrossFit in 2011, joined CrossFit Salem in 2012. I received my CrossFit Trainers certificate in 2016. I generally only coach Saturday mornings @ 9 & 10am. Outside of CrossFit I teach middle school, coach cross country and track @ south Salem high school. I’ve competed in six Hood to Coast relays and several 1/2 & full marathons. Maybe the only coach who loves the cardio grinder workouts.

Hi there! My name is Kelsey Murray and I'm one of the coaches here at CrossFit Salem! I've been doing CrossFit since June of 2018 and received my OL1 in March of 2021. I grew up in Colorado (the mountains are my happy place), love to play video games with my partner, and spend time with my cat, Penny.

I've been crossfitting for almost 9 years. Most of my time spent outside of the box I use hanging out with my 9 yo daughter, mountain biking, paddleboarding, scuba diving, and anything else I do outside.
